Sanders Edwards served with Co B as a Private, 58 North Carolina Infantry, Confederate States of America. He enlisted on May 17, 1862 at Camp Jackson, Mitchell County, North Carolina. He was first married to Sarah E. Ayers, born in 1836, the daughter of James Ayers and Millie Laws. She later died and Sanders then married Mary Gouge about 1872, daughter of Joel Gouge and Minerva Phillips. Mary was born on April 12, 1838 in North Carolina and died April 30, 1900 in Mitchell County.
Sarah E. Edwards, no doubt, is buried in an unmarked grave in Roan Valley Cemetery where her parents James Ayers and Millie Laws Ayers are buried.
